SHARING GOD’S GIFT

The Scriptures teach us:

Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers.  Every good and     perfect gift is from above, coming    down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change likeshifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.                                                                                      (James 1:16-18)

That’s all good stuff.  Temptations to sin and excuses about the same cannot ever be attributed to God.  He is the giver of good/perfect gifts.

The verse (18) that concludes this paragraph speaks of the gift for which we should be most grateful: God gave us birth through the word of truth, and we know what that is, don’t we?  This is God’s great gift without which we would find this life without meaning.  It would leave us without hope in what we often see a very hopeless world.

Look around you!  What do you see?  People!  People are everywhere.  We see them coming to the CSC on a daily basis. Nearly everyone that comes in receives something.  In each case what they receive is a gift from someone else.  But, in reality it is a gift from God.  That is true because every thing you gave the CSC became something for someone else.  Then, many volunteers assemble and give it away as though it were what it is—a gift from God.

God’s greatest gift was the gift of his Son (Jno. 3:16).  How good of a job are we doing in sharing that gift with others?  If you just count numbers you might say, Perhaps we are not doing too well.  If you count relationships built with others—that’s a different story altogether.  Don’t forget, that is something that must be done before we can share Jesus with others.

We are getting ready to provide opportunities for sharing that gift of birth with others.  How do you feel about that? —H
